Baseball: Varsity VS Thomas Jefferson Academy
Results: 9 - 0 (Win)
On Saturday the Eagles were determined to correct their lack of productive hitting that occurred earlier in the week versus Piedmont. Facing the third all-state pitcher within the week, Eagles exploded for 9 runs on 12 hits including 4 home runs, three of which were back-to-back-to-back, energizing the large Saturday afternoon crowd.
Peyton Massengale put the Eagles out front with a solo dinger in the bottom of the first. McKinley Newton increased the lead to 2-0 with a RBI single in the second. The bats really heated up in the fourth as the Eagles struck for 5 additional runs when Massengale, Will Ahrens and Denver Pingley drove consecutive home runs over the centerfield fence.
While the bats were booming Will Ahrens was extending his string of scoreless innings on the mound. After finishing the Piedmont game with 6 consecutive scoreless innings he added 6 more against the Jaguars. Ahrens limited TJA to 3 hits and 3 base-on-balls while striking out 9 to improve his record to 2-1. Freshman Evan Walden took over in the seventh inning and fanned the final 3 batters after surrendering 1 hit.
Multiple offensive contributors for Brentwood were Peyton Massengale (3R,3H,3RBI,2HR), Will Ahrens (2H,2RBI,HR,BB), Denver Pingley (2H,HR,1R,2BB,RBI), Tanner Gheesling (2H,R,BB,SB), and McKinley Newton (2H,R,RBI).
