A part of the mission of Brentwood School is to help students develop an awareness of the needs of others. The community service requirement helps to ensure that each Brentwood high school student gives back to the community and helps to make the world a better place for all. Students in grades 9-12 are required to perform a minimum of 10 hours of community service each year in order to be promoted to the next grade. Students receive a maximum of 5 hours for each service opportunity, even though the actual number of volunteer hours could far surpass that number.
At the beginning of each school term, students who have earned between 15 and 20 hours of service are designated as Blue Eagles, and students who have earned above 20 hours of volunteer service are designated as Gold Eagles.
Students may perform community service during the summer before each grade, during the school year, and through the first week of June after each grade. By the end of the first week of June after each grade, each student must have completed 10 hours in order to be promoted to the next grade. Students may use the fall Community Service Day hours as part of the required 10 hours.
Prior school approval is required for each service project. School-provided forms can be downloaded here and must be signed by an adult at the place of service. Service hour forms must be turned in during the quarter in which they are completed and will not be accepted once a new quarter has begun. Forms for summer service hours must be turned in by the end of the first quarter of school.
