The Brentwood School Board of Directors is made up of volunteers from area businesses, the community and educational leaders.  Included in this photo are (front l-r) Conni Burley, Beth Rawlings, Ray IrwinJoy Norris, Layne Kitchens, (back l-r) Lee Lord, Brian Wright, Michael Atkinson, Marc Sack, Cliff Sheppard, Charles Tarbutton, Ken Bibb, David Brooker.  Not pictured are Daryl Frost and Eric Tillirson.


Effective governance is an imperative foundation for a healthy independent school.  A 15-member Board of Directors (Trustees) has the fiduciary responsibility for the school and sets the policy for the operation of the school.  The Head of School is the Chief Operating Officer and carries out the policies of the Board.  Listed below are Brentwood's Board of Directors.

Mr. Cliff Sheppard, Chair
After attending Middle Georgia College, Mr. Sheppard received his Bachelors degree from Georgia Southwestern College. Mr. Sheppard has been a member of the Brentwood Board of Directors since the 1988-1989 school year, including Vice Chairman of the Board from 1995-1999 and Chairman of the Board since the 1999-2000 school year. He is President of Howard Sheppard, Inc., Chairman of the Board of Citizens Bank of Washington County, and Board member and past Chairman of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Board.  He and his wife, Dianne, are members of the First Baptist Church in Sandersville.

Mr. Ken Bibb, Vice Chair
Mr. Bibb received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee and has been a member of the Brentwood Board of Directors since the 1998 - 1999 school year.  He has been Vice Chairman of the Board since the 1999- 2000 school year. 

Mr. Bibb is President of the George D. Warthn bank, past President of the Sandersville Rotary Club, and Board Member for LIFE.  He and his wife Deana and daughter Callie, ar members of the Sandersville United Methodist Church..


Mr. Charles Tarbutton, Treasurer
Mr. Tarbutton, a life-long resident of Sandersville, graduated from Emory University School of Business with a degree in finance. He is Assistant Vice President of the Sandersville Railroad Company and also serves on the Georgia College & State University Foundation Board, the Georgia Public Policy Foundation Board, the Georgia Department of Economic Development Board, and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Board. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sandersville Technical College, past Chairman of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, and past Chairman of the Board of Leadership Georgia. He and his wife, Helen, and their three children, Mary Helen, Charlie, and Bradley, are members of the Sandersville United Methodist Church.


Mrs. Layne Kitchens, Secretary
Layne is a graduate of Brentwood School (class of 1981).  She received her Bachelors Degree from Georgia Southern University, Cum Laude and Phi Kappa Phi, and earned her Master's Degree with honors from the University of South Carolina.  Layne has been a member of the Brentwood Board of Directors since 1999 and Secretary of the Board of Directors since 2001 school year.

Layne is a nurse practitioner with Washington County Internal Medicine.  She serves as Secretary for the Board of Directors of the Washington County Historical Society.  Layne is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.  She and her husband Dr. Kim Kitchens, along with their two sons Nathaniel and Christopher, are members of First Baptist Church of Sandersville. 


Mr. Michael Atkinson
Mr. Atkinson is a graduate of Brentwood School (class of 1983) and received degrees from North Georgia Technical College and Athens Technical College.  He is President of Atkinson Oil Company, President of Bio Trans Intermodal, past President of the Sandersville Rotary Club, past Director of Georgia Oilman's Association, and past President of the Twin City Country Club.

He and his wife, Kelly, and their two daughters, Ellie and Kate, are members of the Sandersville United Methodist Church.


Mr. David Brooker
M
r. Brooker received his Bachelors degree from Georgia Southern University in 1992. He is a 1999 graduate of the Georgia Bankers Association's and University of Georgia's School of Banking. David is also a 2002 Graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He is also a graduate of Brentwood School (class of 1987). Mr. Brooker has been a member of the Brentwood Board of Directors since the 2007-2008 school year.

David is President and Board Member of Citizens Bank of Washington County, Chairman of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, past treasurer of Brentwood's PTO and Alumni Council, Vice-Chairman of the LIFE Board, and member of the Sandersville Lions Club.

He and his wife, Anne, and their three children, Caleb, Katie and Cannon are members of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville.


Mrs. Conni Fennell Burley
Mrs. Burley is a graduate of Brentwood School (Class of '84).  She received her Bachelors degree from the University of Georgia.  Mrs. Burley served in marketing and public relations positions in South Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee before returning "home" to Georgia.  She is Vice President of Sweat & Associates, LLC. 

Mrs. Burley is involved with Leadership Georgia and serves as the Director of Women's Ministry at Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Wrightsville where she and her family are members. 

Mrs. Burley and her husband Blaine, have three children, Blaize, Brandt, and Brock, all of whom are students at Brentwood School.


Mr. Daryl Frost
Mr. Frost graduated from Washington County High School in 1983 and attended Georgia State College and University. Mr. Frost has been assistant baseball coach at Brentwood School for 5 years, has been employed by Imerys for 20 years, and has lived in Washington County all of his life.

Mr. Frost and his wife, the former Vicki West (Brentwood Class of '84), have two children, Jordan and Lacy, and are members of the Sandersville First Baptist Church.


Mrs. Ray Irwin
Mrs. Irwin received her Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts Education from Georgia College and State University. She served on the Brentwood School Board of Directors from 1999 to 2003 and began her second term during the 2006-2007 school year.

Mrs. Irwin taught visual arts for 23 years, 20 years of them at Brentwood School, and is presently retired. While on the faculty at Brentwood, she was selected STAR Teacher and was granted the Loveday Foundation Grant to study the Classical Tradition in Western Art. She is a member of the Transylvania Club and of the Sandersville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Irwin and her husband, Chris, have two daughters, Ivy and Leigh, who are graduates of Brentwood School.

Mr. Lee Lord
Mr. Lord, a life-long resident of Sandersville, served in the Georgia Army National Guard from 1970 through 1976.  He has worked in state and local government since 1972.  He served as County Administrator for the Washington County Board of Commissioners from 1983 through 2010.

He and his family are members of the Sandersville United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Secretary and as a member of the Finance Committee.  He has previously served on the Administrative Board. 

Lee and his wife, Bett, have two children, Adam (Brentwood class of 1998) and Fran (Brentwood Class of 2002). 


Mrs.
Joy Norris
Mrs. Norris graduated from Brentwood School in 1974 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia in 1977 with her Bachelors degree. She has been a member of the Brentwood Board of Directors since the 2001-2002 school year.

Mrs. Norris is an agency principal, Certified Insurance Counselor, and Certified Risk Manager for Moye's Insurance Agency in Sandersville. She is past Chairman of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and current President of the Pilot Club. Mrs. Norris and her husband, Wayne, have two children, Patrick and Emily, who are Brentwood graduates. They are members of the Davisboro United Methodist Church, where Mrs. Norris serves as the Church Treasurer and a Sunday school teacher.


Mrs. Elizabeth Dunwody Rawlings
After graduating from Stratford Academy in Macon, Mrs. Rawlings received her Bachelors degree from Mercer University. Mrs. Rawlings has been a member of the Brentwood Board of Directors since the 1999-2000 school year.

Mrs. Rawlings is past President of the Guild of Washington County and a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. Mrs. Rawlings and her husband, Dr. William Rawlings, Jr., and their daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah, are members of Sandersville United Methodist Church.


Mr. Marcus E. Sack
Mr. Sack received his Bachelors degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his Masters degree from Georgia College & State University. Mr. Sack has been a member of the Brentwood Board of Directors since the 1999-2000 school year.

Mr. Sack is the Operations Manager for Burgess Pigment Company in Sandersville, past President and Board member of the Sandersville Rotary Club, and member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He and his wife, Connie, and four children, Nicole, Marcus Jr., Kimberly, and Michael, are members of the St. Williams Catholic Church in Sandersville.


Mr. Eric Tillirson
Mr. Tillirson received his Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Presbyterian College and his Masters of Business Administration from Georgia College & State University. He joined the Brentwood Board of Directors in 2002.

Mr. Tillirson is the Vice President and Director of Sales, Marketing and Technical Services at Thiele Kaolin Company. He and his wife, Jennifer, are members of the Sandersville United Methodist Church.

Mr. Brian Wright
Mr. Wright is a graduate of Brentwood School (class of 1991) and received his Bachelor's Degree from The Georgia Institute of Technology.

Brian is a partner is Wright & Wright, P.C., a past Rotary Club President, and a past Brentwood Alumni Council President.  He and his wife, Jennifer, and their three children, Mary James, Will, and Carrie, are members of the Sandersville United Methodist Church.
